Land Clearing Contractor in Ogden and Northern Utah
Before a new home goes up, before a field gets fenced, before a commercial pad gets graded, the lot has to be cleared. Trees come down. Stumps come out. Brush, debris, and old structures get removed. AccuRite Excavating has been clearing land along the Wasatch Front since 1995.
We handle clearing for residential lots, commercial sites, and agricultural parcels across Ogden, Pleasant View, North Ogden, Layton, and surrounding Weber and Davis County communities. Whether your lot has a few mature trees in the way of a foundation or 5 acres of overgrown brush, we have the equipment and crew to get it cleared properly.
What Land Clearing Covers
Tree Removal
We remove trees of all sizes — from a single problem tree in the way of a driveway to dozens of mature trees on a foothill lot being prepared for new construction. Smaller trees come down with a skid steer or excavator. Larger trees are felled in sections when overhead clearance or proximity to structures requires it.
If the wood is worth keeping, we’ll cut it to firewood lengths and stage it where you want it on the property. If not, it gets chipped on-site or hauled off.
Stump Removal
Stumps left in place will rot, settle, and create voids in finished landscaping or building pads. We handle stumps two ways:
- Stump grinding — for areas that will be lawn, landscaping, or low-traffic ground. We grind 6-8 inches below grade and leave the chip residue for backfill.
- Full stump and root ball excavation — when the area will support a foundation, footing, retaining wall, or driveway. Anything bearing structural load needs the stump removed entirely.
Brush and Vegetation Clearing
Scrub brush, sage, overgrown weeds, and small-diameter volunteer trees are cleared by pushing into piles and either chipping on-site or hauling off. For larger parcels, we use a bulldozer or a tracked excavator with a brush rake to clear efficiently.
Debris and Junk Removal
Older lots in Ogden and rural Weber County often have decades of accumulated material — old fencing, abandoned vehicles, scrap lumber, dumped construction debris. We sort what can be hauled to scrap or recycling and what needs to go to landfill, and handle the disposal as part of the scope.
Existing Structures
Demolition of sheds, barns, old foundations, or concrete slabs is part of our demolition services. When clearing involves removing existing structures, we handle clearing and demolition as one combined scope rather than coordinating two contractors.
Land Clearing for Different Site Types
Residential Lot Clearing
A residential lot being cleared for new construction typically takes 1-3 days depending on tree count, brush density, and access. We coordinate with the builder so the lot is ready when foundation work needs to start, and we strip and stockpile topsoil separately when it’s worth preserving for finish landscaping.
Commercial Site Clearing
Commercial sites involve larger areas, tighter schedules, and more documentation. We work to the civil plan, coordinate with the project’s environmental and stormwater requirements, and stage cleared material so the grading and excavation phases can start without delay. See our commercial projects page for the full commercial site work scope.
Agricultural and Rural Land Clearing
Weber and Box Elder county properties being improved for irrigation, fencing, access, or conversion to other uses often need fence-line clearing, brush removal across large parcels, and removal of old outbuildings. We’ve done this work on parcels from 1 acre to 40+ acres.
Foothill and Benchland Lots
Foothill properties in areas like Eden, Liberty, Huntsville, and along Ogden’s east bench have a mix of mature scrub oak, native brush, and rocky soil. Clearing these lots takes more time per acre than a flat valley parcel — equipment moves more slowly on slope, and stumps in rocky ground can require chain work to extract. Our crews have worked these conditions for years.
What Happens After Clearing
Cleared land usually needs grading before the next phase starts. Lots are rarely cleared and left as-is — clearing exposes uneven ground, voids where stumps came out, and surface debris that grading addresses. Our grading and site preparation work typically follows clearing as part of the same project.
If the cleared site is going to support construction, residential excavation for the foundation or basement is the next phase. We can handle clearing, grading, and excavation as a single coordinated scope, which is faster and less expensive than bringing in separate contractors for each phase.
Land Clearing Costs
Land clearing costs depend on the specifics of each site. The main pricing factors are:
- Acreage — larger parcels take more equipment time
- Vegetation density — open ground with scattered brush clears far faster than heavily wooded ground with mature trees and dense undergrowth
- Tree size and count — larger trees require more time to fell, section, and remove
- Stump treatment — grinding is faster and less expensive than full extraction
- Disposal — material chipped on-site or staged for the owner is less expensive than hauling everything to landfill
- Terrain and access — steep slopes, limited access, or proximity to structures slow the work
We quote after a site visit because terrain, access, and the actual condition of the lot are the variables that matter most and can’t be assessed from photos. Get a free estimate based on your specific property.
Permits for Land Clearing in Ogden and Weber County
Clearing trees alone usually doesn’t trigger permit requirements. Clearing that moves more than 50 cubic yards of material or that changes drainage on the site falls under Ogden City’s grading permit ordinance, with similar thresholds in unincorporated Weber County.
If your project will need a permit, we handle the application as part of our scope. Permit fees are passed through at actual cost.
Why AccuRite for Land Clearing
We own and operate our own equipment — excavators, dozers, skid steers, dump trucks, and chippers — which means no waiting on rental availability and no markup on rental costs. Our operators have been clearing land in Northern Utah for over 30 years and know how to work efficiently across the soil and terrain conditions the Wasatch Front presents.
We also handle what comes next: grading and site prep, demolition of existing structures, underground utilities, and full residential or commercial excavation. One contractor, one coordinated scope, one accountable team.
